1962 Gretsch Princess (6106) Pink/White & Princess Amp
An incredibly rare finish example from the first year of production! The Gretsch Princess is one of the most unusual and charming solidbody designs to emerge from Gretsch in the early 1960s. Introduced in 1962, the model 6106 Princess was marketed specifically toward female players and presented as a complete matching ensemble, often supplied with a coordinating amplifier, strap and gig bag. Production numbers were extremely low and surviving examples are scarce, making the Princess one of the rarer Gretsch solidbody guitars of the period.
This original finish pink/white pickguard example is the rarest of all colours the Princess model was available in, the other finishes being white w/grape guard, white w/gold guard and blue w/white guard.
The Princess features a Corvette-style solid body fitted with gold-plated hardware throughout. Electronics are centred around a single Gretsch Hi-Lo’Tron pickup controlled by volume and tone knobs. The lightweight construction and short scale length make the guitar exceptionally comfortable to play, while the Hi-Lo’Tron delivers the bright, articulate Gretsch tone that works beautifully for everything from clean rhythm work to vintage rock and roll.
Other period-correct appointments include open-back Grover Sta-Tite tuners, bar bridge, and Gretsch’s distinctive “Tone Twister” vibrato tailpiece - a basic design only able to produce a subtle shimmer.
This instrument remains all original and in excellent overall condition. Even more remarkably, it retains the complete Princess ensemble (besides the gigbag): the original matching Princess strap and the dedicated Princess amplifier. Finding the guitar alone is uncommon enough, encountering the full package together is very rare indeed.
