1965 Fender Mustang, Refin Black

1965 Fender Mustang, Refin Black

Player grade '65 Mustang refinished in black and looking cool as anything!

The maple neck is paired with a rosewood veneer fingerboard with pearl dot inlays. The neck has a comfortable, slim to medium C profile, measuring 41.8mm at the nut, with a depth of 19.7mm at the first fret and 24.5mm at the twelfth. Replacement tuners are currently fitted, but the correct original double-line Kluson tuners are included in the case. The matching Stackpole pots despite being covered in paint, function well and are both dated week 13 of 1965. The neck also appears to have been oversprayed too.

It’s very much a player-grade example, with a mix of original components and period-correct features alongside refinishing work carried out later in its life.

Electronics and hardware are otherwise correct, with two single-coil, grey bottom pickups (dating to June '65), dual slider switches, a pearloid pickguard, and the correct Mustang bridge and vibrato assembly in place.

Overall, this is a cool, honest 1965 Mustang that wears its refinish very well! A fantastic example of player grade vintage, and an excellent gateway into 1960s Fender before the new CBS measures properly took hold.
