2010 Gibson Custom SJ-200 Custom, Rosewood, Sunburst
An outstanding 2010 Gibson SJ-200 Custom, with rosewood back and sides, and an Ebony fingerboard.
The SJ-200 is one of Gibson’s most iconic acoustic models, known for its big body, bold looks and big stage presence. This Montana-built Custom example takes that classic format and dresses it up beautifully, with high-end appointments, pearl embellishment and excellent tonewoods.
This example is in excellent order and all appears stock. The Sunburst finish suits the model perfectly, highlighting the tight-grained Spruce top and ornate detailing. The rosewood back and sides give the guitar a slightly richer and more complex character than the more familiar maple-bodied SJ-200s, while retaining the big, open Super Jumbo voice and volume these guitars are known for.
The medium C profile neck feels comfortable and familiar, with the easy playability you would expect from a modern Gibson acoustic. The large body gives plenty of power and projection, but the guitar remains responsive and enjoyable whether used for big open chords or more dynamic fingerstyle work.
Hardware includes Grover Imperial tuners, which suit the high-end Custom aesthetic perfectly. The guitar is also fitted with a Fishman Ellipse Aura pickup system, making it a very practical stage instrument too.
Tonally, the rosewood SJ-200 format offers plenty of depth, power and sustain, with a full low end, clear top and a rich, piano-like character. It has the size and volume you want from an SJ-200, but with a little extra warmth and overtone content from the rosewood back and sides.
All in all this is a beautifully appointed Montana-built Gibson SJ-200 Customin excellent condition, complete with its original case and Gibson strap.
