2018 Taylor 812CE - ex Martin Barre
A superb 2018 Taylor 812CE, previously owned by Martin Barre and offered here on Martin’s behalf.
The Taylor 812CE is one of the more refined models in Taylor’s 800 Series, pairing a compact Grand Concert body with high-quality tonewoods and Taylor’s typically precise, player-friendly build. It is a particularly appealing choice for players who want a more comfortable, articulate acoustic without losing the depth and harmonic complexity associated with a rosewood-backed guitar.
This model features a solid Sitka spruce top with Indian rosewood back and sides, giving it a clear, balanced and responsive voice. The smaller Grand Concert body makes it especially well suited to fingerstyle playing, lighter strumming and more detailed work, while the Venetian cutaway gives easy access further up the neck.
The neck is comfortable and immediately familiar, with the sort of smooth, easy playability Taylor are so well known for. The ebony fingerboard and bridge add to the clean, precise feel, and the overall response is quick, even and articulate across the neck.
Tonally, the 812CE sits in a lovely place: clear and defined, but with enough warmth and depth from the rosewood to keep things full and musical. It has plenty of top-end sparkle, a tight low end and a strong note separation that makes it a very usable guitar both acoustically and plugged in.
The onboard Taylor Expression System 2 electronics make this a practical stage or studio instrument, translating the guitar’s natural acoustic character in a straightforward and reliable way.
A refined, great-playing 2018 Taylor 812CE with excellent tonewoods, superb playability and the added interest of Martin Barre ownership.
